Welcome To Human Aging Central.com!

This is an independent informational site covering the various aspects of Human Aging. Items presented are in-depth, but all in laymen's language. Technical jargon is kept to a minimum. A summary of the best practices for a longer life is available on the last web page - Top 5 Long Life Paths.

Life Expectancy

Life Cycle Small

Life expectancy is a measure of the average time a human is expected to live based on the year of their birth (life expectancy from birth, LEB for short), their country, and other demographic factors including sex (women live longer than men). Maximum lifespan is the age at death for the longest-lived individual of a certain population or country.

Exercise To Live Longer

Exercise

Even a little exercise is enough to reduce the risk of an early death by as much as 30 percent. Exercise for 20 minutes a day is recommended as a minimum and when possible more extended exercise should be carried out for even greater benefits. Lack of exercise is responsible for twice as many deaths as obesity Cambridge University researchers found.

Diets For A Longer Life

Mind Diet

A study published in the Journal of the AMA concluded that 4 factors cut mortality risk during a 10 year period by more than half of those who had adopted only one or no protective practices. The four factors were: consumption of a Mediterranean Diet, engaging in regular physical activity, moderate use of alcohol, and not smoking.

Drugs For A Longer Life

Metformin

Metformin is the most popular prescription diabetes drug in the world with over 60 million prescriptions filled in the US alone each year. In 2015 Cardiff University in the UK found that when patients with diabetes were given the drug Metformin they in fact lived longer than others without the condition, even though they should have died eight years earlier on average.

A Healthy Brain

DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oils that plays a central role in brain health. DHA is naturally found throughout the body, but is most abundant in the brain. Our brain is mostly fat, of which 60% is DHA. Just as calcium is essential for building strong bones, DHA ensures that the cells in the brain and other parts of the nervous system function properly.
